Anyone tapped into internet culture will agree with us saying that 20-year-old IShowSpeed — born Darren Jason Watkins Jr — went from basically being a normal kid yelling into a webcam in hopes of making a living off the world wide web to a full-blown international phenomenon in just years. The digital star, in what many will remember as one of the peaks of his careers, has spent the major part of the past few months traveling the world, documenting in real time, the places he lands in, the cultures he stumbles into, and the chaos he thrives on, turning every encounter into instant content. It’s fast, unfiltered, and relentless, moving at a speed no traditional camera crew, let alone television, could ever hope to match.

Ditching usual journalism ethics in favor of instinct, impulse, and whatever catches his attention in the next five seconds, the young superstar has already ticked off four out of the world’s five continents, spending the past few weeks cruising through Africa. After stops in Zambia, Angola, and South Africa, with plans to pass through the rest of the continent, his latest touchdown was Egypt. The visit marked his third Arab country after Saudi Arabia and Qatar, according to the ever-evolving live map fans update on the go.

At a local perfume shop in Cairo, the 20-year-old stops to buy a fragrance, taking a moment to browse before settling on something he likes. The seller names the price ($40) and his tour guide immediately points out that he could bargain if he wanted to. IShowSpeed doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t negotiate, and doesn’t play the back-and-forth game; he just pays the full amount and even leaves a tip on top.

Back home, most people walk into a store, hear a price that’s ten times higher than what they’d pay elsewhere, don’t ask questions, don’t make conversation, and don’t try to connect. They just pay and move on. Yet when someone in Cairo is clearly trying to earn a living, the instinct suddenly shifts to shaving off a few dollars here and there. It might feel insignificant to you in the bigger picture, but it can genuinely make a difference to someone else’s day. Sometimes, the real flex isn’t getting a discount at all, but knowing when not to.

No idea how the link-up happened, but somehow it did. Rising Egyptian artist Nour ends up with IShowSpeed on a felucca boat, casually teaching him how to dance masry style like it’s the most normal thing in the world. Set to a mahraganat track, the two can be seen testing out moves, half-serious, half-laughing, in a clip that’s now going viral everywhere.

In one skit, the young streamer is stopped by an old woman calling out the chaos his presence caused. Instead of snapping back, he speaks to her calmly, ending the whole ordeal with a “welcome to Egypt” and a handshake.

IShowSpeed became the first person ever to livestream from inside the Pyramids. What made it even more notable was how he did it: unlike others before him, he went through the proper channels, completed the required paperwork, and secured official approval, avoiding the kind of unauthorized stunts that have previously landed creators in trouble and caused more harm than good.
