Though we are used to Instagram updating its app in ways no one really needs or wants, this week, the META-owned platform outdid itself by releasing a new feature that people might actually like this time. Tired of doom-scrolling past ads and influencers you don’t even follow? You’ll be glad to learn that the photo-sharing app is testing a new option that could allow users to reset their algorithms and start fresh.
Through an official statement, the company explained that the feature aims to give users more control over their experience on the platform. By resetting their preferences, they’ll be able clear their slate and recalibrate the kind of posts that appear in their feed moving forward.
“We want to make sure everyone on Instagram – especially teens – has safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences and feels the time they’re spending on Instagram is valuable,” it read. “That’s why we’ve started testing the ability for everyone on Instagram – including teens – to reset their recommendations. In just a few taps, you’ll be able to clear your recommended content across Explore, Reels and Feed and start fresh,” it added.
As of right now, not that much more information has been shared. From what we know, the reset button will be accessible “in just a few taps.” From there, your accounts recommendations “will start to personalize again over time, showing new content based on the content and accounts you interact with.”
Currently in the testing phase, Instagram announced that the feature will “soon roll out globally.”
