Although born Yassin Al-Salman, you probably most recognize him as Narcy. The Iraqi public figure is known as a rapper, author, and founder of label Shlonak Records. You might not know that for the last seven years, Narcy has also been a professor, teaching at Montreal’s Concordia University. His newest course? A full-on Kanye West anthology.
Narcy took to Instagram to make the announcement, writing “I will be teaching the first all @kanyewest class on a university level. Listen, in 2013 I was given the opportunity and blessing to teach at @concordiauniversity.”
“[This is] an opportunity to bring more amazing guests to the University and to discuss the world through the lens of one of the most influential artists of our generation,” he continued.
Though controversial, there seems to be immense consensus on Ye’s influence. The news comes amid what’s been a very public divorce for West, who was recently suspended from Instagram after one of his rants. It’s also mere weeks after the release of Netflix’s three-part series Jeen-Yuhs on the American rapper.
The course, titled ‘Kanye vs. Ye: Genius by Design’ will begin starting Fall 2022. “This class isn’t only about Kanye. It’s about community , creativity, responsibility, accountability, fame and mental health, dreams and and nightmares – and more importantly, self-actualisation,” Narcy says, urging students to sign up for one of the 200 spots.
