ISISDÜNYA’s AFCON Tees Are Cooler Than Your Boyfriend’s Football Jersey

Algerian-Turkish label ISISDÜNYA has dropped a new line of tees, all inspired by the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and a couple of the participating countries that competed in its most recent edition. Designed with the girlies in mind, the collection boasts two shirts— one in Morocco’s colorways, the other in Senegal’s — paying homage to the two nations that went head-to-head in the most-recent final of the biennial tournament on Jan 18.

“Having played football for years, I encountered the same frustration I had known in fashion: football jerseys were not made with women in mind. The cuts, the silhouettes, the intention — nothing reflected female bodies, desires, or identities. There was simply nothing that represented us,” founder Dünya Boukhers told MILLE.

“From this absence emerged the idea to create women’s football jerseys rooted in the DNA of ISISDÜNYA. They’re a garment of expression; one that allows women of the diaspora to represent their origins while feeling confident, beautiful, and powerful,” she added.

Cropped at the midriff with leopard-print sleeves, the baby tees carry either the Moroccan or Senegalese blazon on the right side of the chest, with the brand’s logo standing in for each team’s usual sponsors and the country’s name splashed across the center. Put it this way: the jerseys are essentially reimagined dupes of the original kits, only cooler.

According to the founder, more iterations of the concept T-shirts are in the works, including designs inspired by other countries and modest fashion-friendly options. The line will also be carried forward into the next edition of the FIFA World Cup, hosted across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico this summer.

As of now, only the Moroccan and Senegalese versions are available to order, both priced at 65€ ($76), with no indication of when exactly other countries will be getting their own tees, nor which nations precisely will make the cut in the next drop.
