Jaou Tunis Reveals Full Programme for 7th Art Biennale

everything you need to know!

Gearing up for its seventh edition, renowned art festival Jaou has just revealed its much-anticipated lineup of events for its forthcoming gathering in Tunis. Scheduled to run over a month from Oct. 9 to Nov. 9, the art festival will showcase a diverse range of events, with a specific focus on exploring the themes of “art, resistance, and the reconstruction of futures.”

Through nine installations, nine performances, and nine panel discussions, featuring over 60 artists from the Global South, the festival aims to spark meaningful conversations on today’s global challenges through culture by offering a platform for artistic expression and civic engagement. Some of the main axes through which the festival will delve into its themes include Palestine, migrants, and voices of resistance, providing a structured framework for an in-depth probing of contemporary issues through culture.

“In these times of violent turmoil, when the winds of global discord and identity-based retreat blow fiercely, the reinvention of a collective human destiny requires urgent civic initiatives. Arts and culture, true bulwarks against the temptations of war and deadly identities, provide bridges between reflection and action, which are essential to the reimagining of our shared future,” organizers said in a recently shared press-release. “Jaou Tunis (….) embodies this vision of a future reshaped by art and culture,” they added.

Organized once every two years since 2013 by the Kamel Lazaar Foundation, Jaou has, over the past decade, become one of Tunisia’s  beating hearts, serving as “a bridge between local and international creators,” that amplifies underrepresented voices and perspectives from around the world.
