Last week, a couple of celebrities from our region were revealed as brand ambassadors for renowned global fashion brands, including Lebanese-British actress Razane Jammal becoming Cartier’s newest muse and Egyptian rapper Marwan Pablo partnering with Diesel. Now, it’s Tunisian model Ameni Esseibi’s turn to step into the limelight, as it has just been officially revealed that she’ll be joining Jean Paul Gaultier’s ranks as the first Arab brand representative.
Considered the Middle East and North Africa’s first curvy model, the self-proclaimed body positivity advocate is now the face of the French house’s fragrance section, expected to bring an inclusive and fresh perspective to the iconic label. Her appointment, which will hopefully inspire greater diversity and representation in the fashion industry, makes her the first-ever ambassador of the celebrated brand in the region and the first-ever Arab ambassador in its history— a milestone she hopes will help break stereotypes associated with plus-size women.
“Jean Paul Gaultier is a brand that I’ve been dreaming of working with since I was a little girl. It represents me so much and there’s only a handful of brands that I really relate to before even entering the fashion industry. Since my first campaign with the brand in 2021, for Scandal Gold, I said to myself, I will become the ambassador of JPG, I will make it happen. I knew that they’d never had a regional ambassador, let alone an Arab ambassador. I would’ve never been able to make it happen if the team did not believe in me, and honestly, the team has fought for me a lot throughout these three years,” Esseibi told Vogue Arabia in an interview.
Speaking on some of the duties her new role entails, the rising model explained that “it would consist of breaking every stereotype that a curvy woman doesn’t have a space in the fashion industry or in the beauty industry. That also the world is evolving, beauty standards are changing, diversity and inclusivity are not a trend anymore, but they are a must for all brands” as, according to her, “The world is done with lies, with unrealistic beauty standards. They want to see realistic, authentic, genuine people as ambassadors for their favorite brands. That Arab women have a big place internationally and in the fashion world.”
To celebrate her recent appointment, the Dubai-based model took to Instagram to share her first Jean Paul Gaultier campaign with her 200,000 followers. Spotlighting the brand’s Scandal fragrance, the 25-year-old can be seen wearing signature JPG ensembles that showcase her confidence all while expressing her excitement and gratitude for the groundbreaking opportunity in the caption of the post.
“After 3 years of hard work, I’m super honored to announce that I’m the FIRST Ambassador for @jeanpaulgaultier in the MENA Region. Also the FIRST Arab Ambassador Internationally. Thank you for all the teams regionally and internationally for making it happen,” she wrote. “Blessed and Grateful to be part of the best family,” she added.
