Those who’ve been waiting for a Kiss Facility album won’t have to wait much longer. The Paris-based duo—made up of Emirati-Egyptian singer Mayah Alkhateri and producer Salvador Navarrete, better known as Sega Bodega—have just dropped Flesh Mix, the first single from their forthcoming debut. It’s a track that captures everything they’ve come to be known for: Alkhateri’s arresting vocals, lyrics that blur intimacy with obsession, and a sound that refuses to sit neatly in one genre.
At its core, Flesh Mix is about desire and control. Mayah Alkhateri, the Emirati-Egyptian singer at the heart of the project, explains that the lyrics emerged from her own imagination—stories about obsession and devotion that unravel like love letters gone slightly off-kilter. The soundscape is unmistakably theirs—a collision of shoegaze haze and indie rock’s edge, laced with echoes of the 29-year-old’s Arabic heritage.
Alkhateri sings as if caught between a whispered prayer and a fevered confession, her voice carrying both surrender and command. Around her, Navarrete’s production catches it, surrounding her voice with layers of distortion, echo, and grit. The effect is addictive, the kind of track you replay not just to hear again, but to chase the feeling it leaves behind.
Flesh Mix is only the latest step in a journey that began when Alkhateri and Navarrete first crossed paths. She, part Egyptian and part Emirati, carrying with her a cultural inheritance that stretches from traditional Arabic melodies to the experimental impulses of a global generation. He, a boundary-pushing producer already known for his shapeshifting beats and avant-pop experiments. Together, the Paris-based duo found common ground in contradiction: how two voices, two traditions, could beautifully meld into something that resists easy categorization.
Since the release of their debut EP esoteric in 2023, Kiss Facility have been steadily building momentum. They’ve landed the cover of Dazed MENA, performed at Pitchfork Festival Paris, and more recently, even found themselves sampled by Fred Again.. and Skepta on 21 Years. These milestones have set the stage for their first full-length album, which is slated to drop later this year. And if Flesh Mix is any indication, it will be worth the wait.
