For the first time ever, London-based Libyan label Medina is landing in New York for a four-day pop-up. Running from Sept. 17 to 20 at KOTN’s Lower East Side location. The upcoming event adds yet another pin to the streetwear brand’s map, as it steadily takes its vision beyond the British capital and repeatedly brings it to new audiences around the world.
“We have a cool audience out here and connect with some great people. I wanted to come out and showcase the work to a wider audience and establish more of a connection that I can build on long-term, and hopefully make this a more consistent stop, as I do with some other cities,” Medina founder Mabruk Ali told MILLE.
And New York feels like a pretty fitting next stop. Home to one of the most influential streetwear scenes on the planet, the city will offer Medina an opportunity to put its pieces in front of a completely new crowd, while giving those who may have only encountered the label through a screen the chance to finally experience its world IRL.
The pop-up will give visitors an early look at the label’s newest collection a couple of weeks ahead of its general release, with pieces available to both preview and purchase. That includes a new denim set and hoodie, alongside a handful of what Ali describes as “heavy hitters” from the label’s past collections.
As with previous events organized by the label, clothing won’t be the only attraction. NYC-based Ghanaian DJ Rich Fazo will also be behind the decks on opening night, providing the soundtrack to Medina’s first outing in the city.
