The world of fashion is very fortunate to have the clever and creative mind of Jonathan Anderson contributing to the realm of menswear, which would be so very mundane without his ingenuity. The British fashion designer, who never fails to churn out an imaginative and innovative lineup of clothing consistently, presented the men’s spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection for Loewe on Saturday at Paris’s La Garde Républicanine’s equestrian arena in a space inhabited by three towering water-sprouting fountain installations created by American sculptor Lynda Benglis— who also starred in a Loewe campaign last year. Much like the designer’s last few collections, the new offering is a continuation on Anderson’s reductionist act shown in his Fall 2023 Menswear collection in January as well as his Fall 2023 Womenswear collection in March.
The show opened with a series of disco-inspired looks— sparkling blouses and ultra high-waisted jeans encrusted with hundreds of tiny, hand-placed Swarovski crystals that shone brighter than the front row made up of the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Brian Cox, Tamino, Mason Gooding, and brand ambassador Taeyong. Anderson revealed that he wanted show-goers to perceive the catwalk through a wide angle and from the bottom up. Cue the pulled-up waistbands, long legs, and twisted, rib-cage grazing tops that created a looming silhouette.
There was also round-toe loafers in brushed suede, trousers and jackets made out of a mix of suede and treated leather that created an ombre-effect (Anderson is a master manipulator of fabrics), long leather jumpsuits with a dropped crotch, argyle sweaters, and chunky knits, all of which are extremely wearable. And of course, it wouldn’t be a true Jonathan Anderson collection without a tiny hint of kookiness, which was provided via the backless tops fashioned out of what looked like a swatch of fabric and complete with an oversized pin.
Anderson has a knack for creating beautiful clothes with an aura of simplicity but with a twist, that makes them so unique and cool. A gray ribbed cardigan with bulging tabs on the sleeves is a great example. With his latest men’s spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection for Loewe, Anderson once again showcased his penchant for imaginative and innovative designs, leaving us eagerly anticipating his next offering. He just simply never misses.
