The region’s biggest and loudest music festival—MDLBEAST Soundstorm—will not take place this year; its next edition is pushed back to the same time next year. Typically held in early December since its launch in 2019, this year’s edition has reportedly been called off by organizers,
who are instead turning their attention towards the festival’s comeback in 2027.
“We know we said we’d see you at Soundstorm this year, so this is not the update we wanted to share. With regret, this year’s Soundstorm will not take place as planned,” organizers wrote in a statement shared on Instagram.
Though no official reason was given, we assume the decision was made in light of the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, which has had devastating consequences across the Gulf and already forced several major cultural events in the region to either postpone or cancel their upcoming editions. Just weeks earlier, the Red Sea Film Festival made a similar announcement, pushing its sixth edition back to next year too.
As for what Soundstorm’s comeback will look like, details remain scarce for now. No dates or lineup have been revealed yet, meaning festivalgoers will have to sit tight for a little longer before finding out what’s in store. But if there’s any consolation, organizers seem intent on making the extra year count, promising to return “better and stronger” when the festival eventually makes its way back to Riyadh.
