Liverpool FC Legend Michael Owen To Star In Upcoming Egyptian Movie

less dribbling, more drama for England’s former golden boy

The footballer-to-actor pipeline continues to grow as former Liverpool FC and Real Madrid star Michael Owen has just been confirmed to feature in an upcoming Egyptian movie. Dubbed El Hareefa 2:El Remontada, the forthcoming title will build on the success of its first installment and will, once again, continue to follow the ups and downs of a local football team as they navigate through the challenges of competition and high stake rivalries.

Written by Eiad Saleh and directed by Karim Saad, the sequel will see many members of the original cast make a comeback— including Ahmed Ghozzi, Khozbara, Selim El Turk, and Nour Ehab, among others— with the exciting addition of Michael Owen, who arrived in Egypt on Nov. 9 to prepare for his special appearance in the film.

Spotted exploring the Pyramids of Giza while soaking in local culture, it is said that Owen’s inclusion is set to bring an international edge to El Hareefa 2 though we do not know just yet how exactly will his role impact the team’s journey as well as the movie’s plot. That said, with the amount of star power he brings to the project, we can only expect his involvement to garner more attention, add intrigue, and potentially even alter the course of the team’s journey in unexpected ways.

According to the latest updates, El Hareefa 2 has wrapped up filming and is now in post-production. A preliminary date for the release of the movie has been set for the beginning of January 2025.
