Egyptian Producer Joins Venice Film Festival Jury

Mohamed Hefzy is breaking international barriers

Mohamed Hefzy has made a name for himself for both his production work as for his screenwriting, and in April the Egyptian filmmaker made headlines after being named president of the 40th Cairo International Film Festival (the youngest ever to be appointed).

And now, Hefzy has been selected as one of the jurors at the esteemed Venice Film Festival, joining the ranks of previous jurors like Diane Kruger, Carrie Fisher and Bernardo Bertolucci.

Hefzy is set to judge the Orizzonti section of the festival – which selects the winners of Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Short Film as well as a Special Jury Prize.

Although it might be his first foray in to being a part of a jury, Hefzy is anything but new to the International film festival scene. As founder of the Film Clinic—one of the region’s leading production companies—the producer has screened films in Cannes, Venice, and Sundance. He’s also taken part throughout the years in numerous panel discussions at the Berlin International Film Festival the Dubai International Film festival amongst others.
