Neneh Cherry Released a Gorgeous Music Video Shot in Beirut

Directed by Nigerian Blood Orange collaborator Akinola Davies

Iconic 80’s and 90’s Swedish Pop singer Neneh Cherry just dropped a new music video for her new tack Natural Skin Deep, from her latest album Broken Politics. Famed for her worldwide hit 7 seconds with Youssou N’dour, Neneh Cherry made her solo comeback in 2014 and has since been working with cult English electronic producer Four Tet on her recent releases.

Directed by Nigerian artist Akinola Davies Jr, whose critically-acclaimed visual work explores notions of colonialism and identity, the stunning video sees the singer dancing around Beirut, while various local extras film her with their phones.

“I was kind of hesitant to travel to Beirut, but I’m happy he (Akinola Davies) gently persuaded me to make this video there. I ended up falling in love with this city that has seen so much, and everybody I met there! It has an incredible vitality and beauty. There’s a strength and resilience but also humour and playfulness that I loved. I also met so many inspiring women in the few days filming, both in the cast and the crew. It was an honour that we worked with an all women production team from Beirut. I loved it. The video couldn’t have been made without them”, declared the singer on Instagram.

She has also revealed dates for two upcoming shows in the U.S. later this year.
