Nile Nights: Sudanese Artists Are Uniting in New York to Raise Funds and Awareness for War Victims

Representing Sudan in NYC

Buildings engulfed in flames and bodies heaped in an open grave: These harrowing scenes are from Sudan, where a power struggle between two generals began last spring, claiming over 14,000 lives, displacing 7.6 million people, and transforming the nation into a war zone. Sudanese event organizer Osochil is determined to bring attention to this humanitarian crisis with a fundraising event in New York on July 20.

Dubbed Nile Nights, the event, which is set to take place in Brooklyn’s Atlantic Avenue, more specifically at the Brooklyn Burj, seeks to raise global awareness about the dire situation in the war-torn country via a series of performances from Sudanese artists, aimed at raising funds and awareness for the ongoing war in Sudan, where 2.5 million people are at risk of starvation by September.

The first edition of Nile Nights hopes to mobilize support and contribute to the relief efforts of the Sudanese people through performances by the likes of rapper G-Salih, DJ and curator Love Bonez, and singer Nadine El Roubi

All of the proceeds from the charitable initiative will be donated to the Sudanese Diaspora Network NGO, an organization dedicated to providing aid to those affected by the war in Sudan. The 100% volunteer-led non-profit has raised over $150,000 for its Sudan Benefit Fund, helping provide essential aid to those impacted by the violence.

For those eager to help make a difference, details about tickets and donations can be found online at eventbrite.com. We can’t think of a more meaningful way to spend a Saturday night.
