Olivia Rodrigo’s New Music Video Was Shot By Palestinian and Sudanese Children

In today’s digital age, solidarity takes many forms; relying solely on financial resources to support those in need is no longer the only avenue available. With the reach that online platforms now command, creative gestures have also become a way to spotlight the people, voices, and stories that too often go unheard. Such is the case for American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo, whose latest music video was shot by children from Gaza, Sudan, and other parts of the world affected by conflict and violence.

Serving as the visuals for her cover of The Magnetic Fields’ The Book of Love, the track appears on Help (2), a charity album that brings together a range of artists to raise funds for War Child, an NGO dedicated to helping children affected by conflicts and humanitarian crises around the world.

Using footage shot by children from Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, and Yemen, the video strings together moments they captured themselves— small glimpses of everyday life seen through their own cameras— placing their perspectives front and center in a story too often told about them rather than by them.

Released the same day as the album on March 6, the video serves as one of the project’s most moving contributions, aligning with War Child’s wider mission to support children living through conflict. Featuring 23 tracks by 33 artists from different corners of the industry, the album unites them around a common goal.

Some of the most recognizable names involved include English rock band Arctic Monkeys, British electronic group Depeche Mode, London-born rapper King Krule, iconic Mancunian duo Oasis, and Sudanese singer-songwriter Sampha, among many others.

The second chapter to an opus released over three decades ago, the original Help project, released in 1995, sought to rally the music community— including figures such as Paul McCartney, Sinéad O’Connor, and Radiohead— to raise money and awareness around the Bosnia war in the 1990s.
