Billboards displaying the American giant’s signature pony above Palace’s logo have appeared in Tokyo and London over the weekend breaking the news of the unprecedented collaboration. While Palace have already worked with innumerable brands like Reebok, Adidas, Stüssy and Oakley more recently, this is a first for Polo Ralph Lauren, which has never done a streetwear collaboration before.
“Palace Ralph Lauren is a timeless collection that represents a love letter from a young London skateboard company to their favourite brand in the universe”, says the post. While this move follows the American’s brand decision to target millennials, hip-hop has long-been obsessed with Polo Ralph Lauren, as shown by the emergence of the “Lo Life Crew” in the 1980’s and 1990’s, a group of Broooklyn-based teenagers who made it their mission to acquire and wear as much Polo as possible.
Until today, the preppy brand has had a huge impact on street culture, and with affordable prices in line with Palace’s usual price range, it’s safe to say it will be a huge success.
