Business of Fashion hailed rappers ‘Fashion’s New Royalty’ back in 2018, and the statement still stands true. Just this week, Cardi B became the face of Balenciaga, starring in the fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2020 campaign.
The move marks the first time a celebrity has fronted a campaign for the house since Demna Gvasalia’s appointment in 2015. Whilst monumental, at this point, rappers being brand ambassadors is anything but surprising. The past few years have seen the relationship between hip hop’s biggest stars and fashion only strengthen.
To mark the occasion though, we’ve rounded up some of the most iconic collisions between the fashion industry and the rap world.
