It is no surprise that trainers have found their way into main musical and cultural avenues throughout history, as they reflect the zeitgeist of different times in different shapes and sizes. From SOLE DXB and Amongst Few’s much-needed shoe laundry service to Abu Dhabi’s huge Sneaker District, the UAE continues to become a hub for all things arts and culture, drawing in sneakerheads from across the region.

In Dubai, You Better Fly, the emirate’s first consignment store selling iconic streetwear gems, and THAT Concept Store teamed up for a recent event catered towards the distinct tastes of every type of sneakerhead. Situated at the heart of the Mall of the Emirates, RARE-ISM has created a haven for sneaker connoisseurs. In this limited-time pop-up, sneakerheads and collectors will find some of the most exclusive and rare sneaker gems and collectibles to clamor over. Besides copping a pair of one-of-a-kind trainers, the event also features a series of activations aimed at igniting fashion-worthy conversations and keeping your ears open for some good music. RARE-ISM’s first weekend which took place on May 8 and 9 included DJ sets by Dubai’s sought-after, DJ Parvane and DJ Liutik, as well as a talk exploring streetwear’s influence on luxury.
In case you missed it, don’t fret, as the second weekend of RARE-ISM will take place on May 12 and 13 at THAT Concept Store, where there will be a panel discussion on “This is not a toy,” live graffiti art, and some more live music from some of the best local DJs.
