Saudi Arabia Opens First Silent Airport

wait what?

In an effort to reduce travel-related stress, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has just unveiled the country’s first silent airport. Putting an end to all announcements one can usually hear inside a terminal—from take-off to boarding calls—Abha International Airport is the latest to adopt this new approach to flying.

Adding itself to an already long list of aerodromes prioritizing passenger tranquility over noise— including Singapore Changi International Airport, Zurich International Airport and Dubai International Airport, amongst others— Abha International joins the ranks of those leading the way in providing travelers with stress-free journeys.

Instead of traditional loudspeaker announcements, flight details will now be displayed on screens all throughout terminals and at boarding gates. As this policy is quite new and different, airport officials have announced implementing a comprehensive awareness campaign to help passengers adjust. This will include multilingual information boards, electronic notices, and a dedicated voice call system for emergencies and important updates such as flight cancellations or last-minute delays.

As the Gulf State continues to attract more visitors from around the world, this new initiative only solidifies its status as a global leader in modern travel experiences, setting a new standard we hope more will follow.
