It’s a full circle moment for Shabab, who teamed up with supersoulxxx for an exclusive pop-up taking over Kuwait’s Ode Eatery for two days. The cult label helmed by Iraqi-Canadian twins Chebmoha and Zainab Hasoon and the Kuwaiti conceptual brand founded by Yasmine Setareh go way back—in 2014, Chebmoha booked one-way ticket to Kuwait from Canada, promised his mom he’d be back in two-weeks (he didn’t return for a decade), and collaborated with supersoulxxx on a range of snapbacks that would go on to set the stage for their future collaborations. Now, a decade later, they have reunited to commemorate 10-years of true friendship, bringing back a range of Shabab’s classic pieces like the football jerseys, bowling shirts, hoodies, parachute pants, and tote bags alongside a new, limited-edition Kuwait tee, giving Kuwaiti fans of the brand the exciting opportunity to finally get their hands on some of Shabab’s most in-demand designs.
The result is a shopping experience that feels more like a hazy summer block party: energizing refreshments; shoppers spilling out of the store and into the streets; classic tunes being blasted during DJ sets a la Chebmoha and Setareh, both taking turns spinning behind the decks. On display, a visual buffet of need-it-now accessories like the football tray, key chains, wallets, bandanas, and of course, the white Shabab x supersoulxxx snapback, which debuted 10-years-ago.
Shabab has been pretty busy these past couple of months. In addition to a pop-up, or “shindig” as they put it, in the founders’ home city (and where it all started with a black fitted cap), Calgary, Alberta, this summer, the lifestyle brand also set up shop at the Abu Dhabi Boogie Box festival earlier this month. What’s more, the label is set to debut another t-shirt in collaboration with Toronto R&B duo Majid Jordan ahead of their performance at Dubai Opera on Nov. 22. The two already joined forces in July on a limited-edition Shabab x Majid Jordan long sleeve tee.
