Few things in life are as stressful as shopping for a swimsuit. And if you’re anything but a size small, the task is all that more daunting.

But over the last few years, fashion brands have been making some bold moves towards inclusivity, expanding their size ranges to take account for women of all shapes and sizes. With this shift in diversity also came the rise of a number of labels catering specifically to plus-sized women, expanding even further the range of styles available.

Whilst the industry still has a few strides to make to become truly inclusive, we’re one step closer. To celebrate, MILLE rounds up our favourite size-inclusive swim brands you need to shop this summer.

Chromat

Year after year, season after season, Chromat continues to champion diversity on and off the runway. The swim and athleticwear label has made its mark on the industry since its launch in 2010. And just as they’ve become a staple in the industry, diversity is an imperative aspect of the brand, and its collections of swimwear are proof of just that.

After years in the modeling industry as a ‘middle size’ model, Allie Ayers launched her label in 2018, creating a fun line of swimsuits that ranges in size from 0-26. Not only that, but Ayers fits her swimsuits on three different models, one for a straight size fit, one for a middle size fit and another for a plus size fit, giving each range the attention it deserves.

With Emily Ratajkowski as the face of her brand Inamorata Swim, you might not at first glance bill the label as size-inclusive, but in fact, Ratajkowski, who just made headlines after penning an essay on femininity and posing with unshaved armpits for Harpers Bazaar, made it a mission to embrace all sizes in both her swimwear line as well as her bodywear line.

With ‘Love thy differences’ as their mantra, it’s no surprise that Malia Mills fits the bill as NYC’s go-to size inclusive swim brand. The label, which launched in 1993 has made a name for itself for its radical approach to swimwear, offering only a selection of separates, because ‘rare is the gal who is the same size on top as on bottom’ as they put it. Their sizes range from A to F cups.
