Spotify’s Most Listened-To Artist Will Surprise You

all say welcome to the platform’s new #1

Billie Eilish is officially Spotify’s most listened-to artist worldwide. At just 22, the American singer and songwriter has managed to overtake The Weeknd’s monthly streaming numbers, reaching 100.1 million listens compared to his already impressive 99.8 million. The milestone was announced by Spotify through its data-tracking Twitter account on Aug. 19.

Eilish is now the third artist to hit the 100 million monthly listeners benchmark on the Swedish-based streaming platform, following in the footsteps of only The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, who reached this feat in August 2023. Examining the way their respective numbers have developed since then, it seems as if keeping such high figures up isn’t always easy as The Weeknd has since fallen below the 100 million target, and Swift currently being at 91.7 million listens per month despite releasing three albums between 2023 and 2024. With competition potentially increasing, The Weeknd still chose to express clear support towards his younger peer by retweeting a prediction about her future milestone adding emojis and a message of encouragement along the way.

With a discography that spans two EPs and three studio albums, the young artist has firmly established herself as a powerhouse in the global music industry since her debut in 2016. Each one of her releases consistently earn themselves both critical acclaim and commercial acclaim. Her latest album, Hit Me Hard And Soft, released in May 2024, has already snatched many prestigious certifications in several countries around the world.
