Men’s Flares: How to Wear This Season’s Biggest Trend

Wide leg, kick flare, bell-bottoms… they’re back

Skinny trousers are long gone. In 2020, trouser proportions are getting looser and wider than ever.

Although deemed somewhat controversial by popular standards, flares are having a major revival. Spotted at Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Celine and Marni to name just a few, slouchy, wide-legged men’s trousers have now made it off the runway: most notably on Gucci favourite Harry Styles, who ditched his black skinny jeans and Chelsea boots for high waisted flares and heeled boots à la Alessandro Michele.

Have you ever asked yourself to decide between comfortable clothing or extravagance? The good news is that they are not mutually exclusive. Forget XXL baggy jeans, chinos and cargo pants— this season is all about (comfortably) stepping out of your comfort zone.

As the world takes a turn towards the apocalyptic, what might have appeared hideous or ridiculous just a few years ago, somehow seems to bring relief and ease now. John Travolta-esque pants naturally come with a tinge of irony, but that’s because we’re all in desperate need of humour and frivolity to remedy the crushing anxiety of living in such uncertain times.

Here are five super-wearable flares you need to add to your wardrobe.

If you’re into unforced elegance, go kimono. Combine with shiny boots for minimal effort but maximum impact.

The Boot-Cut Jeans

Boot-cut jeans are the perfect way to pull off an old-is-new look.

The Acid Bright Suit

Why do things in half measures when you can go all out with a colourful suit? Honestly, getting dressed is much easier when it’s fun.

Flower Power

With the Migos spearheading the floral print trend, flowers have made a huge comeback. For a full 70’s vibe, bring blossoms to your winter outfits to boost your mood.

The Wide-Legged Tracksuit

Kill this season’s “sports luxe” vibe with an elevated tracksuit.
