The Cap Project

This Experimental Emirati Brand is Breathing New Life to Abaya Design

How The Cap Project is changing the status quo

The Cap Project

“How can we stand out in a crowd of black abayas?” that’s the question The Cap Project aims to answer with their experimental non-conforming designs. The Dubai-based luxury womenswear label is challenging traditional silhouettes and creating abstract and elevated designs ranging from evening to everyday comfort wear. And you’re going to want to get your hands on their pieces.

But you’ll have to work fast. The Emirati label’s ‘capping’ system is the first of its kind in the region, aiming to create a unique and exclusive shopping experience. Each design is released in a very limited number of pieces, and once it sells out, it gets capped— meaning it is no longer available for purchase.

The Cap ProjectThe Cap ProjectIn September, they unveiled their art-conscious collection featuring dreamy abayas in warm earthy tones. Made in flowy comfortable fabrics, the pieces include a buttoned-front black abaya with multiple military-style pockets, a utility-belt wrap abaya with a blazer collar and an overcoat-style abaya worn on top of tailored pants.

The versatile designs are adorned with scalloped wavy trimmings reminiscent of the brand’s signature ‘The Cloud’ silhouette which transforms the classic abaya into a whimsical and artistic statement piece.

“There is something for every woman in our showroom, whether you’re looking for an overlay to throw on top of your evening dress at a wedding or an everyday abaya to pair with your favorite heels or sneakers, we’ve thought of it all”, described one of two anonymous creative directors of the brand.

The September 2020 collection is available for purchase at The Cap Project showroom in Dubai Design District
