The Paris 2024 Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024, in Paris. This marks the third time Paris has hosted the Summer Olympics, having previously done so in 1900 and 1924. As the world turns its eyes to the City of Light, anticipation builds for the remarkable display of athletic feats by genetically-blessed individuals, and for some, also for the fashion. Read on to discover some of the hardest Olympic drip at this year’s Summer Games.
Team Kuwait, by Muhra
Muhra, the Kuwaiti kaftan label helmed by Farah Al Babtain was chosen to dress the country’s female athletes for the opening and closing ceremonies. For the occasion, the athletes will wear striking, heavily-embellished kaftans in a royal blue colorway that exude royalty, while beautifully paying homage to the Gulf nation’s culture. Inspired by the Kuwaiti national poem Memoirs of a Sailor by Dr Mohammad Al-Fayez, the back of the elegant design features verses from the poem delicately embroidered in Arabic with golden threads.
Team Mongolia, by Michel & Amazonka
Team Mongolia’s uniform for the opening and closing ceremonies went viral on social media for being extremely hard. The striking designs, inspired by the country’s traditional clothing, include intricately embroidered vests, dresses, and accessories. Michel & Amazonka, who have designed the country’s Olympic opening and closing ceremony outfits for the past two Olympic games, created two sets of uniforms—one for the flagbearers and one for the athletes—that took an average of 20 hours each to craft.
Team Egypt, by Concrete
Designed by Concrete, a menswear fashion brand, the uniforms for Team Egypt aren’t just about style. “It’s a symbol of Egyptian pride, passion and determination to make history on the world’s biggest athletic stage,” wrote Concrete. The designs feature a mix of lightweight fabrics and pure Egyptian cotton, to ensure the athlete’s stay and look cool throughout the Games.
Team Haiti, by Stella Jean
Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean designed the opening and closing ceremony uniforms for Team Haiti. The patterns chosen for the skirts and trousers were created by a Haitian painter, meanwhile the chambre shirts are made out of a special blue cotton that is spun in a specific way to Haiti.
Team Morocco, by Ali Drissi
Morocco’s official uniforms for the opening and closing ceremony feature white blazers with stylized green stars and red trousers, inspired by the colors of the country’s national flag.
Team United Arab Emirates, by Rawdha Al Shaafar
Team UAE’s ultra-cozy uniform was designed by Rawdha Al Shaafar in red and white to symbolize strength, purity, and courage.
Team Canada, by Lululemon
The athletics brand Lululemon was responsible for dreaming up the uniforms that will be worn by Team Canada athletes in the Opening Ceremony, Podium, Media, and Closing Ceremony at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and Paralympics. For the Vancouver-based brand’s first-ever Olympic designs, there was an emphasis lightweight, sweat-proof fabrics that cool, plus newly engineered pocket shapes and placements. Some of the gear also features removable sleeves and pants that convert into shorts.
Team USA, by Ralph Lauren
Is there anything more quintessentially American than Ralph Lauren? The designer has been responsible for the US Olympic teams’ uniforms since 2008, and this year is no different. For the ninth consecutive Games, the brand designed separate outfits for athletes for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as for during and after the Games.
Team France, by Berluti
The French maison’s in-house team collaborated with editor Carine Roitfeld, who suggested the tuxedo as the starting point of the uniforms worn by the host country’s athletes. The design will be paired with a Berluti signature patina-effect shawl collar in the French national colors.
Team Italy, by Emporio Armani
The uniforms that Team Italy will be wearing at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, were unveiled during the presentation of the Emporio Armani Men’s Spring 2024 collection. Six Olympic and six Paralympic athletes, competing in various disciplines at the Games, took to the runway wearing pieces created especially for the sporting event, including the podium tracksuit with the phrase “W Italia” in the front. Giorgio Armani will also design the official uniform for athletes to wear during the Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.
