The Gradient Manicure is 2019’s Biggest Nail Trend

And this is how to master it

When it comes to nail trends, things can get pretty predictable: muted or dark hues for the winter, and brighter bolder ones for spring and summer. But one look on Instagram indicates that there’s one look in particular that has taken the reins this season – and it’s one we’re pretty excited about.

Namely because there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to choose a nail colour. Full disclosure: I’m usually a solid 15 minutes into my manicure before I pick a shade, and a last-minute change of heart is a common occurrence. But the good news is, this season’s nail trend is anything but limiting. We can literally choose them all.

Whether you want to cheer yourself up with a rainbow hued manicure (à la Kendall Jenner in her latest Instagram post) or go haywire with clashing colours, there are no boundaries. If you’re looking to master the art of the multi-coloured nail, a little curation is necessary. But don’t worry, you won’t have to study the colour wheel to embrace the trend, but a little knowledge goes a long way.

Just like with any colour choice, you should try to avoid mixing warm and cool colours, instead opt for ones that oppose each other on the colour wheel (like blue and orange, or red and green).

If you’re looking to try it out but want to keep it minimal, you could also mix different shades of the same colour. But if there’s anything to take away, it’s to not to be afraid to experiment. There are no rules.
