The GTA VI Preview Soundtrack Is Already Insane

One of the best things about Grand Theft Auto (GTA) has always been the music. Raise your hand if you’ve ever completely abandoned whatever mission you were supposed to be doing just to drive around aimlessly, cycle through the radio stations, and listen to music. From cruising through San Andreas with Radio Los Santos blasting to tearing around Vice City with Flash FM on, the soundtrack has always been as much a part of the GTA experience as stealing cars and causing unnecessary chaos. So, naturally, when Rockstar Games finally gave us a proper look at Grand Theft Auto VI after over a decade of waiting, we had our ears open.

Fans of the franchise have been waiting so long that they’ve probably forgotten what life was like before GTA VI became the gaming industry’s longest-running “coming soon.” But after years of rumors, leaks, delays, and way too much speculation, American video game publisher Rockstar Games has finally given fans a proper look at what they’ll eventually be playing — though they seem to have had their hand forced after a hacker began leaking clips of the game online.

On Aug. 18, a mysterious hacker, or group of hackers, going by the name CyberLeek, apparently decided we’d all waited long enough and started posting clips of GTA VI online. And they didn’t stop at one. Over the following days, more footage made its way onto the internet, showing everything from characters wandering around and fights to driving, plus plenty of other bits developers probably weren’t ready for us to see just yet.

Leaving Rockstar with only two options—watch more of the game appear on the internet without their consent, or finally open the floodgates themselves. The people holding the keys to Vice City chose the latter. And last week, we finally got a first “official” look at GTA VI after 13 long years of waiting.

There was obviously plenty to take in during the half-hour or so of gameplay we were handed. And while everyone else was busy dissecting, frame by frame almost, every street corner and wondering which buildings they’ll actually be able to enter, we were paying attention to something slightly different: the music. And from what we’ve heard so far, GTA VI seems to have that department covered.

Across the preview, Rockstar slipped in tracks spanning nearly five decades, from ’70s country and ’80s pop to hip-hop, house, and Latin music. Some you’ll recognize immediately, others you might be Shazam-ing for the first time. Either way, here are all the songs featured in GTA VI’s preview so far.
