The Must-Watch Egyptian Shows to Binge This Ramadan

The holy month of Ramadan, a period of spiritual purification and contemplation, is rapidly approaching, with an anticipated start date around Feb. 28. Muslims globally are preparing for this sacred time, characterized by a slower pace of life, deepened connections with loved ones, and the enjoyment of traditional meals like iftar and suhoor. But beyond its spiritual and social dimensions, Ramadan also features an entertainment aspect with an abundance of Ramadan television series released each year. Hotly anticipated by viewers, these shows have become an integral part of the Holy Month. This year, Egyptian television is scheduled to broadcast a number of highly anticipated shows during Ramadan. With that in mind, here are some of the most exciting Egyptian Ramadan series we are most excited about. 

‘Kamel El Adad 3’

The beloved dramedy series Kamel El Adad is set to return for a third season. Actress Dina El Sherbiny, who plays the lead role of Laila Taymour, recently confirmed that scriptwriters are already working on the new season. The show follows Laila, a twice-married mother of four, and Ahmed Mokhtar (Sherif Salama), a widowed plastic surgeon with three children, as they navigate the complexities of their blended family. With its mix of witty storytelling and heartfelt moments, the 15-episode series continues to strike a balance between humor and drama, while exploring the intricacies of modern family life. The cast also includes Aya Samaha, Ahmed Kamal, Essad Younis, and Mourad Makram.

‘Montahy El Salaheya’

Montahy El Salaheya, penned by Mohammed Hisham Abia, the acclaimed writer behind Be Tolooa Al Rouh (2022), promises a captivating storyline. Produced by Abdullah Abul-Fotouh, the show features Mohamed Farrag in an undisclosed role. Despite limited details, anticipation is high for this production due to the impressive creative team behind it.

‘Welad El Shams’

The series was directed by Essam Abdel Hameed and written by Mahmoud Ezzat, is generating excitement as a new addition to the Ramadan lineup. The project, based on a concept by Ahmed Malek, stars Malek and Taha Desouky. While details of the plot are being kept secret, anticipation is high to see Malek’s concept come to life.

‘Lam Shamseya’

Amina Khalil and Ahmed El Saadany reunite in Lam Shamseya, a drama tackling the heavy subject of child abuse. Written by Mariam Naoum and directed by Karim El-Shenawy, the series marks El Saadany’s return to the Ramadan drama scene after his absence in 2024, and Khalil would also be making her return to Ramadan after a one-year hiatus. With Mohamed Shahin, Yousra El-Lozy, and Tharaa Goubail rounding out the cast, Lam Shamseya promises to be both thought-provoking and emotionally charged.

‘Zolm El Mastaba’

The star-studded Egyptian series Zolm El Mastaba explores the lives of the underprivileged, shedding light on societal norms, traditions, and struggles faced by those living below the poverty line. The 15-episode series features a cast including Eyad Nassar, Fathy Abdel Wahab, and Riham Abdel Ghafour.

The Tamer Mohsen-directed series explores themes of love and relationships across its 15-episode arc. Starring Asser Yassin and Eman El-Asy, the ensemble cast has remained tight-lipped about the plot, building anticipation for the series, but if Mohsen’s previous work is any indication, it’s definitely going to be a must-watch.

‘El Sharnaqa’

El Sharnaqa, featuring a powerhouse cast including Ahmed Dawood, Maryam Al-Khusht, and Sabry Fawaz, is set to be a highlight of this year’s Ramadan programming. Written by Amr Samir Atef and directed by Mahmoud Abdel Tawab, the series promises a captivating mix of drama and suspense.
