One of the world’s most expensive venues, the Sphere, is officially making its way to the UAE. First set up in Las Vegas, the iconic structure was recently announced by The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). Featuring cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art installations, the venue has been revolutionizing the ways in which we engage with the world of entertainment since 2023, giving visitors an unparalleled 360-degree immersive environment.
The original Sphere came with a hefty price tag of $2.3 billion and took nearly four years to construct from the ground up. The UAE version is expected to follow the same specifications, delivering an architectural marvel that could surpass the original. With a capacity to host up to 20,000 guests at once, the Abu Dhabi Sphere is set to rival its US counterpart in both scale and grandeur, aiming to attract not just local audiences but international visitors as well.
“We are excited to bring Sphere to Abu Dhabi in partnership with Sphere Entertainment, providing our residents and visitors with an extraordinary new form of entertainment,” Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chair of DCT Abu Dhabi, said. “Sphere Abu Dhabi will seamlessly integrate advanced technology with captivating storytelling, creating unforgettable memories for everyone who visits,” he added.
In partnership with Sphere Entertainment Co., DCT Abu Dhabi will first have to pay an initiation fee to access Sphere’s designs and tech. In charge of the funding side of things, the Sphere’s team, on the other hand, will oversee the development, construction, and grand opening of the new venue.
