The World’s Tallest Hotel Will Open Next Year in Dubai

The sky’s the limit

It’s become a weekly practice for Gulf countries to break records as the several nations that make up the GCC today always manage to take things to a whole new level from the moment they set their eyes on a project that seems to pique their interest.

In the past couple of months alone, Saudi Arabia revealed plans to unveil the world’s largest structure known to man through the future launch of The Line, while Qatar recently hosted one of the most expensive FIFA World Cup tournaments ever last December. Although the UAE can already be credited for having erected the world’s tallest skyscraper — the Burj Khalifa, which was completed in 2010 — it seems as if this milestone isn’t enough as reports have confirmed that Dubai will also soon be home to the world’s tallest hotel by the first quarter of 2024, per Hotelier.

Dubbed Ciel, which means ”Sky” in French, the soon-to-be-opened lodging will reportedly reach a staggering 365 meters in height and will boast 82 floors as well as 1,042 guest rooms, 150 of which will be suites. More than just a simple space to rest and sleep, the one-of-a-kind hotel, by The First Group, will also incorporate several all-day dining venues expected to cater to all palettes and tastes, multiple panoramic view lounges, rooftop pools, as well as a luxury spa and health club.

“We are thrilled to bring Ciel to Dubai’s skyline, a ground-breaking project that will redefine upscale hospitality and showcase the best of what the city has to offer. Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, we are making great progress and firmly on track to open the property officially in 2024,” said Rob Burns, CEO of The First Group.

“Ciel will offer guests an unparalleled experience with its unique design, luxury amenities, and stunning views. Ciel is not just a building, but a symbol of Dubai’s ambition, innovation, creativity, and excellence,” he added.

So far, the title of the ”world’s tallest hotel” has been held by Gevora Hotel located on Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai, since its inauguration in 2017, soaring to an awe-inducing height of 356.3 meters, with The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, which stands at a vertiginous height of 355 meters, coming in at second place. Expected to outshine its predecessors by nearly ten meters, the upcoming Ciel hotel will soon pull itself up to the first position of the podium, making the tiny emirate the nest of the world’s top three tallest hotels. At this point, it’s very unlikely for any other city to break through and take over in the times to come.
