Arguably one of the biggest, if not
the biggest, music gathering across North Africa, Mawazine has, since launching back in 2001, steadily grown into one of the most influential festivals on the continent. For over two-decades, the Rabat-based event — held under the auspices of his majesty the King Mohammed VI — has transformed the Moroccan capital into a sprawling live music hub, drawing millions of attendees and welcoming a mix of international chart-toppers, regional heavyweights, and emerging talent from across the globe. And this year’s edition is about to be no different.
Scheduled to run between June 19–27, Rabat will once again turn into the nexus point for all things sonic for nearly ten days straight. And as organizers slowly begin unveiling which acts will be taking over the city this summer, excitement is quickly beginning to build around what is already shaping up to be another massive edition.
From what has been revealed so far, festival-goers can expect live performances from American rapper Tyga, reggaeton star Nicky Jam, Egyptian pop heavyweight Tamer Hosny, Afrobeats sensation Rema, electronic trio Major Lazer, and French rap star Ninho, among several others still expected to be announced in the lead-up to the festival.
Continuing its long-standing tradition of hosting some of the music industry’s biggest names, this year’s line-up follows previous editions that welcomed global heavyweights such as Rihanna, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Burna Boy, and Nancy Ajram, further cementing Mawazine’s reputation as one of the few festivals in the region capable of operating at a genuinely global scale.
