For its first official drop since launching earlier this month, emerging Moroccan brand WAHA has unveiled an accessory that’s already shaping up to be one of this summer’s ultimate must-haves. Marking its debut in the world of fashion, the North African creative studio— which bills itself as a high-end prêt-à-porter label— makes a bold entrance into the scene, releasing a watch that tells time and the stories of thousands of kitchens across the Maghreb.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic tabsil taws— an iconic blue plate featuring a peacock in the middle present in most households from Morocco to Libya— the timepiece celebrates an important piece of folklore, familiar across generations, now reinterpreted into a statement of identity and culture you can rock on your wrist. Replacing the classic time markers, the platter’s emblematic details— from the peacock to the motifs— are etched onto the dial, turning a national symbol into a sleek minimalist wrist-watch that threads both memory and pride together.
“Our creative vision is deeply rooted in our cultural heritage. Choosing to work with the tabsil taws reflects that: a meaningful object in Moroccan culture, present in nearly every home. Through this piece, we aim to honor its rich history and cultural significance, reimagining it in a modern, minimalist form that speaks to today’s generation while preserving its essence,” the WAHA team shared with MILLE.
With two interchangeable straps— one see-through, one blue— you can mix, match, and nail the look you’re after every time. And speaking of style, WAHA isn’t stopping at accessories. To complement its first drop, the brand is also unveiling a collection of oversized t-shirts and hoodies, available in cream and black, under the concept “Kaws casse le Taws” (which translates to “Kaws Breaks the Taws”).
Reimagining the world of American artist and designer Kaws through a local, emotional lens, the designs feature henna-adorned hands capturing the grief of a Moroccan woman faced with the irreparable: a taws plate shattered on the ground.
