Wakeskater Plunges Off Dubai Skyscraper in Athletic Feat Wearing Prada

The (dare)devil wears Prada

Picture this: Atop the sky bridge at Dubai’s Address Beach Resort, where the Guinness World Record-holding infinity pool casually sits 294 meters above sea level, a fearless daredevil leaps over the pool’s edge. This seven-year dream of Red Bull athlete, Brian Grubb, an American trailblazer who boasts three world championships and is hailed as a wakeskating pioneer, was brought to reality with the help of Prada Linea Rossa, who outfitted Grubb for this ambitious stunt.

The intrepid 43-year-old kicked off this heart-stopping coup with “WakeBASE”– which is a fusion of drone wakeskating and BASE jumping. Grubb began by wakeskating (practically skateboarding on water) a jaw-dropping 94 meters across the rooftop pool, towed by a drone hitting speeds of 30 km/h. Then, in a seamless transition that defied gravity, the athlete took the plunge, hurtling into a thrilling 77-story BASE jump covering an insane 294 meters before sticking the landing on the beach below.

As Grubb ascended through the Dubai skies, Prada Linea Rossa had his back– literally. The American athlete was decked out in gear that put the “high” in high fashion, combining comfort and performance in a way that only the Italian label knows how. It wasn’t just about looking good, but about tackling the elements with equipment that’s as versatile as Grubb’s skills demand. Think multilayer and elastic structures, heat sealing that works like magic, and materials so cutting-edge they’re practically from the future.

The athlete’s endeavor was the latest in partnership between Prada Linea Rossa and Red Bull. The ongoing collaborations mark Prada’s commitment to promoting sporting initiatives and helping ambitious and brave athletes bring their dreams to life.
