It’s Christmas Eve, and here at Mille, we’re still clinging to the hope that it’s not too late to send a last-minute wishlist to Santa. After all, we’ve been on our best behavior all year (seriously, we mean it). Surely, that earns us a little something special from the guy who shimmies down chimneys every December. And if he’s not accepting any late requests, we’d like to believe that we have enough wasta to change his mind.
Below, what we’re dreaming of this holiday season. From practical to indulgent, or a little extra, these are the bits and bobs we’re hoping to (somehow) unwrap under the tree this year…
– An end to Western imperialism and hegemony
– The free fall of capitalism
– A free Palestine
– A strong and stable Syria
– No more inflation because enough is enough and khalas is khalas
– No more honking in Cairo (ever)
– ‘Love Is Blind, Habibi’ Season 2
– To normalize shaving two years off your age because of COVID and lockdown
– New music from Frank Ocean because no one’s soundtracking our heartaches anymore
– For Morocco and Algeria to hash things out between them (pun intended)
– For Shein, Temu, and other fast-fashion marketplaces to go out of business ASAP
– For Libya’s future to be as bright as it can be because Libyans deserve the world
– Same but for Sudan
– To stop littering because why is the region moving like throwing stuff in the bin is haram?
– For John Galliano to go back to Dior
– For us Arabs to stop begging for white people’s attention or validation
– For the rest of the world to adopt shattafas
– For the silent genocide in Congo to be over
- To stop referring to Africa as a country; it’s a diverse continent
– To end the “you’re too young to be tired” culture
– To spend less time “networking” and more time genuinely building relationships
– For a magic button to make traffic vanish
– For fewer 7-day work weeks; more 7-day weekends
– For free and accessible healthcare for everyone
– To end early morning meetings, link ups, gatherings
– To put a final full stop on skinny jeans too while we’re at it
