Known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” Eid Al Adha honors Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. One of its most important rituals is qurbani, or the act of sacrificing livestock—typically a sheep, goat, or cow—and distributing the meat to those in need. But not every family is able to take part in this sacred tradition. In conflict-stricken regions like Palestine, Sudan, Syria, and parts of sub-Saharan Africa, millions are grappling with war, poverty, and displacement. For many, a single meal with meat is a rare luxury and Eid Al Adha is the only time in the year they get to consume it.
