Things Everyone Can Do to Ward Off the Winter Blues

It’s easier than you think

We can’t say we’re fans of winter time. Unless you manage to sneak off some time to ski in a snowy white wonderland for a week or two, it typically means dreaded days spent sitting behind a computer screen working, or writing term papers to get degrees our parents desperately want us to have.

If you can’t tell already, we’re still groveling over the end of sunny summer days. Unfortunately, we’re all far too familiar with the seasonal depressive episodes that come with the colder months. But this year, we’re taking a new approach. We’re on a mission to find the ultimate cure for the post-summer blues. We’ve teamed up with Italian retailer YOOX to do exactly that.

Of course, this means we’re taking things to the next level. We’ve put together our list of remedies for you to try—but we’re keeping sartorial choices a top priority too. With the release of Les Girls Les Boys x YOOX collection, it’s the perfect opportunity to make sure you’re dressing the part, while maintaining your comfort as we navigate the seasonal change.

Whether you’re going off to a retreat or meditating on your couch, the collection – created jointly with Serena Rees, Founder and Creative Director of the London-based lingerie and genderless brand—is a perfect match.

The genderless capsule collection is made of all the staples: sweatshirts, t-shirts, and trousers, all designed to be worn by everyone, with inclusive sizing ranging from XS to XXL. Needless to say, it caters to our every need.

We’re fans. And it’s all based on one simple premise: you shouldn’t have to spend too much time scrummaging through the internet or your wardrobe to find clothing that fit and align with your values as you navigate other anxieties.

On that note, here are some of our favorite things to do to ward off the winter blues:

Go on a silent retreat
It might sound extreme, but it’s the ultimate form of meditation. It’s exactly what it sounds like: no talking, no phones, and no music; only silence and the sound of nature—all for the sake of alleviating your anxiety and depression.

Watch your favorite feel-good films
Simple enough yeah? It’s also something that most of us underestimate. Pick your favorite childhood movie, or a typical Hollywood feel-good flick, make some popcorn, and snuggle up on your couch for a few hours til you dose off. You’ll thank us later.

Gallery hops
Art can really be the ultimate fix. Instead of hopping bars at night that’ll only leave you with a case of hangxiety, this winter we’re all about gallery hopping. Get your dose of culture and visit the museums and galleries in your area. Nothing will ward off negative vibes like good art—it’ll keep you inspired too.

Meditate
You don’t have to be a pro to meditate. Anyone can do it. Afterall, it’s just mindfulness at the core of the practice. One of the easiest ways to go about it is to head over to your app store and download a meditation app that’ll help you relax. We recommend Headspace.
