Can’t Make It to El Gouna? Here’s How to Experience the Film Festival in Cairo

Featuring 14 titles

For the second year running El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) and Downtown Cairo’s iconic Zawya Cinema are joining forces. From Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, a handpicked selection of films from GFF’s prestigious lineup will be screened at Zawya, offering a rare opportunity for cinephiles in the capital to experience the magic of Gouna without ever leaving the city.

“We are thrilled to see the festival’s impact extending beyond El Gouna, reinforcing its goals of reaching a diverse audience,” says Marianne Khoury, GFF’s Artistic Director. “For the second consecutive year, we are showcasing a mini-version of the GFF program at Zawya Cinema in Cairo, in tandem with the screenings in El Gouna.”

Zawya, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, has established itself as a beacon for independent and arthouse cinema, providing a cultural lifeline in the heart of Downtown Cairo. The venue’s collaboration with GFF exemplifies its ongoing mission to create space for films that challenge, inspire, and engage.

The Zawya screenings will feature 14 standout titles, including a blend of highly anticipated feature films and compelling documentaries. Though full details of the lineup and schedule are yet to be revealed, the carefully curated selection is expected to include a mixture of festival darlings and groundbreaking new works, further cementing the GFF-Zawya partnership as a significant moment on Cairo’s cultural calendar.
