Now in its fifth year, the ancient city of Marrakech will play host to the hottest (literally) destination for underground electronic music with Oasis Festival. Welcoming everyone from Sampha to Moodyman, this is your chance to experience a festival that encourages cultural exchange through music.
More than just a festival, Oasis offers the ultimate North-African experience. With a view of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, it’s a desolate party paradise that also offers daily mindfulness and yoga, delicious local cuisine and a local arts programme.
This year, Oasis will see performances from Mercury-prize winning artist Sampha, Four Tet, Dixon B2B Âme and Amelie Lens, with debut performances from BBC Radio 1 DJ Jayda G, American DJ Seth Troxler, Australian house king Mall Grab, Parisian trio Apollonia, and Korean dynamite Park Hye Jin. Better yet, Detroit techno and house star Moodymann has been added to the line-up, with fellow Detroit DJ and producer Theo Parrish, and Berlin-based Dana Ruh and Anastasia Kristensen.
Moroccan tastemakers are also taking the spotlight, including one of the region’s coolest record labels Casa Voyager, Yasmean, founder of Moroko Loko dance night Amine K, emerging talent Monile and more.
Throwback house favourites Hercules & Love Affair, will perform alongside Andean-electronic producer Nicola Cruz and Ibiza favourites Cassy and Eats Everything. Meanwhile warehouse specialists Paranoid London and the alternative sounds of Baltra will bring along something entirely different.
If you want a break from all the partying, there are some incredible art exhibitions on display throughout the festival thanks to MACAAL. Some highlights include installations by Squidsoup, an international artist collective who have exhibited at the Tate, Burning Man and Glastonbury Festival (and will be making their Moroccan debut). Meanwhile French-Moroccan photographer Leila Alaoui, Kenyan photographer Cyrus Kabiru, Marrakech-based photographer M’hammed Kilito, iconic Malian photographer Malick Sidibé, Moroccan artists Mohamed El Baz and Mustapha Akrim will also all have work on display.
