Our Ten Ins and Outs For 2024

*drum roll*

With everyone sharing their in’s and out’s for this year, we decided to jump in on the fun… Here, our non-exhaustive list of 2024 in’s and out’s— Instagram, your days are numbered.

Out: Clean girl makeup
In: Grunge beauty

Clean girl makeup, defined by fresh, dewy skin, brushed out eyebrows, and natural sun-kissed cheeks was all the rage in 2023, but we have a feeling that the minimal makeup trend will be replaced by its antithesis, grunge beauty. Think: Sooty, slept-in eyeliner, pencil-thin eyebrows, and statement lips.

Out: Situationships
In: Being completely unashamed and vulnerable with love

No more settling for less than what we deserve. The era of “talking stages” and casual dating has come to an end. Repeat after me: We are raising our standards, pouring more self-love into our daily lives, and refusing to engage in anything that will require us to heal from.

Out: People pleasing
In: “No” as a full sentence

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but “no” is a complete sentence. Normalize saying it to anything and everything without an explanation. And if someone is offended by your boundaries, that is their problem.

Out: Big pant small shirt
In: Clothes that fit

We are probably going to be seeing a lot less of the tiny crop tops that we’ve been wearing for the last couple of years and more micro tops that sit right under the belly button. We hate to say it, but the days of cartoonishly baggy pants are also numbered.

Out: Paying $8 for a coffee
In: Drinking water

If there’s anything to take away from the recent Stanley Cup craze, it’s that drinking water is officially cool. While our generation grew up drinking water directly from a hose, today’s kids have access to a range of trendy water bottles and refillable flasks to casually tote around with them in lieu of an overpriced iced coffee.

Out: Instagram and X
In: Blogging

Ever since Elon Musk bought and rebranded Twitter to X and Instagram introduced a bunch of new updates nobody asked for (plus amped up on censoring), they just haven’t been the same. And we’re not the only ones who feel this way, which is why there has been a surge of users blowing the dust off their old Tumblr accounts and signing up to Substack. Blogging is back, baby.

Out: Compulsive shopping
In: Outfit repeating

This year, we’re going to ditch the outdated idea that repeating an outfit is a fashion faux pas and embrace rocking the same clothes over and over again. Not only is it way more cost-effective to not have to buy a new outfit for every event and occasion, but re-wearing what you already have in your closet is an ethical and sustainable way to style yourself and resist capitalism!

Out: Doom-scrolling
In: Reading books

If you’re tired of staring at a screen for 12-hours, may we suggest picking up a book instead? If you need a little help getting started, we compiled a list of books to devour in 2024.

Out: Blaming astrology for anything that goes wrong in life
In: Taking accountability

No, it’s not because mercury is in retrograde. In 2024, let’s normalize admitting when we’re wrong or made a mistake. Accountability will set us free!

Out: Food delivery apps
In: Cooking for your loved ones

Cooking hits different when you’re doing it for someone you unconditionally love. This year, we’re going to delete the food delivery apps and share wholesome, home-cooked meals with family and friends.
