Snapchat Tackles Mental Health with the UAE’s Digital Wellbeing Council

One hell of a step forward

Social media giant Snapchat has just launched its own in-app mental health feature, titled Here For You. The new feature provides users with precious support and beneficial resources on how to deal, cope and help their entourage or themselves through varies mental health struggles.

In partnership with the UAE’s Digital Wellbeing Council, this new extension will seek to grant easy access and to share information when searching for common mental health-related issues or terms.

“Snapchatters appreciate our commitment to privacy and how it allows people to be themselves, without the pressure of being judged by others,” commented Jake Thomas, head of the UAE division at Snap Inc. “Given that Snapchat reaches over 60% of 13-24-year-olds, and one in three 18-34-year-olds in the UAE, we believe that the most impactful way we can provide support and education for young people is in-app” he also added.

Well aware of the myriad of issues younger generations are experiencing in this time of age, Snapchat is positioning itself on the get on by reaching out to its users and making sure that its platform is seen as safe.

Receptive and attentive to its audience, this move comes as a much-needed one that hopefully should set the trend for the other major apps to follow through with too.
