Dolce & Gabbana Launches New Design Award to Support Arab Talent

Happening in the UAE

Abu Dhabi’s Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) is teaming up with Italian luxury label Dolce & Gabbana to support and uplift the UAE’s next crop of fresh talent. Open to current students and recent graduates, the Dolce & Gabbana x ADMAF Design Award 2023 aims at providing the relevant tools, infrastructure, and expertise to the Gulf State’s youth to help them “unleash their creative potential and showcase their talents in the fields of couture and design craftsmanship.”

Split into three categories, namely fashion, jewelry, and fragrance, participants are set to compete for an opportunity to gain precious insight with the help of tailor-made mentorships with industry insiders, an opportunity to see their works come to life through a collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana after an internship with them in their Milan headquarters, as well as see their sartorial creations be featured at the next edition of the Abu Dhabi Festival.

Experts, comprising fragrance connoisseurs, master perfumers, acclaimed artists, and esteemed representatives from both ADMAF and Dolce & Gabbana, will assume the role of jury and are expected to evaluate each submission and entry for its distinctiveness, artistic finesse, cultural significance, and its ability to evoke the essence of both traditional Emirati heritage and the Italian fashion house’s modern aesthetic.

Fashion students will be tasked with creating an abaya collection that masterfully blends traditional Emirati heritage with Dolce & Gabbana’s more modern aesthetic, meanwhile the jewelry competition will see students craft high end jewelry pieces applying techniques such as micro-mosaics. As for the fragrance part of the competition, participants are invited to develop a scent inspired by the brands iconic Carretto Siciliano and Blu Mediterraneo prints, as well as Abu Dhabi’s rich cultural scene and natural landscapes.

All participants will undergo training in artisanal techniques related to their chosen category.
