Mustafa The Poet, Omar Apollo, and Daniel Caesar Are Organizing A Charity Event For Sudan And Palestine

Artists with a large platform and following are often expected to take a stance on current affairs, ongoing conflicts, and global issues by using their voices to raise awareness and advocate for social justice. One recent initiative launched by three musicians is placing itself at the forefront of the horrors seen in Sudan and Palestine to provide local communities with relief and support and leverage its influence to address the ongoing humanitarian crises.

Dubbed “Artists For Aid,” the fundraising event, which is being spearheaded by Sudanese-Canadian singer and songwriter Mustafa The Poet, American-Mexican Grammy Winner Omar Apollo, and Toronto-born R&B artist Daniel Caesar, is set to welcome a hotbed of regional and international talents that have joined forces to raise funds through a benefit concert.

Featuring some of the industry’s most respected names— including Palestinian poet and activist Mohammed El Kurd, American rapper 6lack, and British hitmaker Stormzy— the philanthropic endeavor aims to use each participating artist’s reach to spark change and bring much-needed assistance to communities on the ground in Sudan and the Gaza Strip.

United under a common goal — which is to inspire and empathize with the plight of the Palestinians and Sudanese — the charitable event will take place on Jan. 4, 2024, at Newark Symphony Hall in New Jersey, with all proceeds being directed to Canada’s first Muslim-Canadian international relief non-profit organization, Human Concern International.

“We worked tirelessly to bring this to you, but our fatigue is not even a splinter of what we’ll be singing for,” Mustafa The Poet wrote on Instagram of the upcoming event. “The violence in both nations seized the dream. Here it is revived for me in someway. The intention remains, on this evening we give our voices to make room for theirs,” he added.
