Arguably one of the best-performing albums to have come out in the past half-decade or so, Astroworld, Travis Scott’s third studio album, has left fans dealing with a semi-serious drought since its release in 2018. Although the genre-bending rapper and record-producer dropped a couple of loose tracks here and there, and made a couple of appearances on collaborative tracks, fans have been eager to see what the Houston-born MC has been working on behind curtains.
Now, the 32-year-old icon in his own right is gearing up to share his first album in five years, and it’s coming sooner than you think. It’s official, after weeks of teasing across billboards in LA, the Goosebumps hitmaker announced on Sunday that he will be hosting a launch party for his forthcoming project at Egypt’s Pyramids of Giza on July 28.
Titled Utopia (the name of the project was revealed in early 2020, and further confirmed on the second anniversary of Astroworld), it seems that those long years of patient waiting are finally culminating towards an explosive and highly-anticipated release that promises to further cement Scott’s status as one of the most influential artists in the music industry.
Described as an “unforgettable show that will immerse fans in the world of Utopia,” per the press release, the live show taking place against the backdrop of one of the world’s seven wonders, is expected to see several industry-recognized figures and artists in attendance, while also being open to the public— unfortunately, tickets sold out seconds after the announcement. However, those who didn’t manage to get their hands on a ticket needn’t fret as the show will also be live-streamed for viewers at home.
While an official release date for the album has yet to be announced, the rapper has wasted no time in opening pre-orders on his web store, with fans now able to secure their own copies of the highly-anticipated record, which will be available in various formats, including CDs, vinyl, and accompanying merch.
What’s more, the pre-order announcement also revealed that the album will feature not just one, but five distinct covers, although specific designs are still being kept under wraps adding another level of surprise and excitement to the project’s impending release.
Marking his first performance in the Middle East since headlining Wireless Abu Dhabi’s debut in March earlier this year, as a frequent visitor to the region, his eagerly-awaited appearance is expected to further solidify Scott’s influence and popularity amongst audiences in the Arab World. In the artist’s famous words: It’s lit!
