Cristiano Ronaldo’s Retirement Plans Unveiled At… Paris Fashion Week?

wait what?

It’s not rare to hear juicy gossip during Paris Fashion Week, but it is certainly unusual when the tea revolves around football. Last week, Georgian designer Guram Gvasalia presented the Fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection for Vetements in the French capital, with a little help from Georgina Rodriguez, who was overheard dropping hints about the status of her longtime partner Cristiano Ronaldo’s retirement plans following her PFW debut.

After turning heads and making headlines in an autographed red shirt-dress paying homage to her better half’s stint with English Premier League team Manchester United, the shopping-assistant-turned-model caught the attention of the world for a comment she made while conversing with fashion insiders. In a video that quickly went viral across social media platforms, the Argentinian-born influencer seemed to suggest that the father of her two kids may be retiring from football after over 1,200 professional career appearances— or at least, that’s how the Internet interpreted her words. The snippet, which has since been viewed over a million times, shows the 30-year-old claiming, verbatim,  “One more year for Cristiano and then it’s over. Maybe two, I don’t know.”

Although it remains unclear as to whether Rodriguez was alluding to Ronaldo’s exit from football or simply from Saudi Arabian team Al Nassr, whom he’s been representing since January 2023, her cryptic remark rapidly stirred speculation all while igniting a flurry of online discussions and debates on what the iconic number seven’s next steps will be.
