Months after the release of his sophomore album 27, Moroccan rapper ElGrandeToto, born Taha Fahsi, was recently seen explicitly hinting towards an exclusive collab with American hip-hop legend Rick Ross. Set to be part of the Casablanca native’s re-edition of his second full-length record— which is yet to have a confirmed drop date— both artists jumped on an Instagram live session to praise each other and publicly discuss a potential collaboration.
In a recording of the widely-followed conversation, ElGrandeToto explains that he is currently working on the deluxe version of his last album, which is expected to hit streaming platforms sometime in the near future. Upon the reveal of the exciting piece of news, his cross-Atlantic counterpart expressed the wish to be part of it, all while acknowledging the Mghayer singer’s rise in prominence in the global rap scene.
At his studio at the time of the call, Spotify’s most listened-to artist in the Arab World in 2021 started playing a snippet of a forthcoming track, allegedly part of the upcoming re-release, to which Rick Ross responded with enthusiastic nods, seemingly eager to add his signature verses to one of the North African artist’s next hits.
“Send that to Bret right now so I can get it,” Ross said in the informal meeting. “We finna do that collaboration ASAP, next time we get back on live we give it to them,” he added, before asserting that he’ll personally “make sure (they) collaborate on one for the project (…)”
“It’s going to be beautiful man”, he continued.
This is not the first time that Rick Ross has sung Toto’s praises in public. Last month, the esteemed rapper and record executive took to his Instagram Stories to salute the Moroccan hitmaker’s discography and show respect for his craft. Naturally, fans showed their anticipation for a potential collab by flooding social media platforms with hype-filled tweets and messages, only mirroring a strong sense of excitement towards what the two titans of the industry could come up with.
