Moschino’s Creative Director Davide Renne Has Died Just Days After Stepping Into New His Role

a loss for the fashion world

It has been reported that Italian fashion designer Davide Renne has died. He was 46-years-old. The tragic news comes less than one month after Renne was announced as the new creative director of Moschino on Oct. 16 and nine days after he officially stepped into his role on Nov. 1.  Moschino confirmed the news of his death via a heartfelt statement on Instagram, revealing that the cause of his death was due to an undisclosed illness.

“There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time,” Massimo Ferretti, Chairman of Aeffe SpA, the Italian luxury goods group that owns Moschino, said. “Davide joined us only a few days ago, when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can’t believe what happened. With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends,” he added.

His death marks a massive loss for the fashion industry. The Tuscany-born Renne who designed the women’s collections at Gucci for over twenty years, was incredibly talented, playing a major role in the popularity of the Florence-based brand, especially during Alessandro Michele’s tenure.

He was tapped to spearhead Moschino’s main line, overseeing women’s, men’s, and accessories, succeeding Jeremy Scott, who departed from the label in March after a decade with the Italian heritage house. Renne’s eagerly-anticipated debut of his first collection was scheduled for the Fall 2024 fashion season, and was to be unveiled during the February 2024 Milan Fashion Week.
