Three Actors Will Be Making An Exit From HBO’s ‘Euphoria’

Spoiler alert!

Arguably one of the most emotionally charged series to hit screens in the past decade or so, HBO’s Emmy-nominated TV show Euphoria has still not confirmed when its third season will be released, however, it has been revealed that three key members of the main cast will be missing from its next chapter.

As some of you may already be aware, Angus Cloud, who portrayed Zendaya’s dealer and protective figure Fezco in the series, tragically passed away earlier this year for reasons owing to substance abuse and depression following the loss of his father a week prior to his own. Central in the show’s plot, he will not be making a return despite the significant role he had on the storyline as well as the appreciation he had amongst audiences.

Cloud’s onscreen adoptive brother, Javon Walton, who is better known for his role as Ashtray in the series, is also calling it quits with the show as he decided to take “a step back [from acting] and just focus on boxing,” as he told The MMA Hour in a previous interview. In the second season’s finale, his character left viewers assuming that he was fatally shot by police officers, although we do not see his corpse, therefore leaving a glimmer of hope of seeing one of the show’s fan-favorites potentially making a return further down the line. However, given the recent news of Walton’s choice to pursue other career opportunities in the realm of sports, we can only imagine that this would mark the definitive end of Ashtray’s journey in the Euphoria universe.

Lastly, it’s Barbie Ferreira’s Kat who’s been confirmed to not make a return as she shared a heartfelt goodbye through her official Instagram account. “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” wrote the 26-year-old. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today,” she added. In a fair number of interviews following news of her departure, Ferreira cited creative differences as one of the main factors behind her sudden withdrawal, explaining that she didn’t “think there was a place for her (character) to go,” as she categorically refused to be the “fat best friend.”

Since Euphoria’s inception back in 2019, the total number of actors having left the series mounts up to four. In the first season already, Algee Smith, who plays Sydney Sweeney’s onscreen love interest Chris McKay, was almost entirely written off the show, minus one minor appearance in the second season’s premiere, despite there being room for his character’s arc to roam.
