‘Euphoria’ Star Hunter Shafer Arrested At Pro-Palestine Protest in New York

:(

There’s probably never been a more difficult time to advocate for Palestine. Since the harrowing events of Oct. 7,  a growing number of oppressive policies and measures against support for the Palestinian struggle and liberation have been implemented around the globe. Regardless of tone or intent, the simple act of carrying a Palestinian flag or calling for an immediate cease-fire is considered radical enough to get you into trouble, and apparently even land you in jail. Such was the case for Hunter Shafer, who this week was arrested in New York City for taking part in a protest set up by anti-Zionist left-wing organization Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).

According to local authorities, the Euphoria star was allegedly one out of a group of 50 individuals to have been taken into custody following a peaceful march. The rally took place at the Rockefeller Centre’s NBC headquarters, where President Joe Biden was taping his surprise appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

“Hunter was arrested at the protest, along with 50 other people,” a JVP spokesperson said in a statement to Vulture. “We commend her commitment to Palestinian freedom and a future of justice for everyone.”

Circulating images show the 25-year-old actress wearing a “Cease-fire now” t-shirt, hands bound behind her back, as she is escorted by police officers away from the protest scene. According to the New York Post, the rising Hollywood star was Issued a summons for trespassing and has since been released after being spotted in public yesterday, but if you ask us, this is how all celebrities should use their voices, power, and privilege.
