From Saudi Arabia to Jordan— 9 Khaleeji Series To Get Hooked to This Ramadan

From historical dramas to comedies

Ramadan is next week, meaning we can expect our average screen time to increase as we look for alternative ways to kill time after iftar. We’ve already curated the ultimate list of Egyptian Ramadan series to binge after our bellies are full and now, we’ve compiled another list of mosalsalat, this time from the Gulf,  that promise to entertain and enthrall audiences with their mix of comedies, dramas, and gripping storylines. Below, nine Khaleeji Ramadan series to turn on after clearing your plate.

‘One Wife Is Not Enough’

This Kuwaiti series makes a triumphant return after earning acclaim for its previous seasons. Produced by Eagle Films and directed by Bahrani Ali Al-Ali and Kuwaiti author Heba Mishari Hamada, the show stars the dynamic duo of Kuwaiti artist Hoda Hussein and Egyptian Nour Al-Ghandour, along with stellar performances from Egyptian stars including Ayten Amer and Majed Al-Masry in his Gulf debut.

‘Mint Rayek’

Written by Oman’s Mona Al-Nofali and directed by Emirati filmmaker Nahla Al-Fahd, Mint Rayek navigates the challenges of completing a university degree. Starring Heba Al-Dari and Saud bin Shehri, this Kuwaiti family drama promises to have you on the edge of your seat.

Pencil

The Abdullah Al-Turkami-directed series offers a candid portrayal of marital struggles. Based on true events in 1990s Kuwaiti society, the series, written by Maryam Qallaf, explores the theme of redemption, symbolized by the title, as mistakes can be erased if not written in ink.

‘The Spider’s House’

The Saudi production emerges as one of the most anticipated dramas coming out this Ramadan. Though the plot has yet to be revealed, the series boasts a talented cast including Asayel Muhammad, Fayez Bin Jiris, Hilda Yassin, and Muhammad Shaman, which tells us that we can expect some stellar storytelling. 

‘Relief After Distress’

Directed by Saudi director Muhammad Abdel Aziz Al-Tawala and written by Mishari Hamoud Al-Amiri, Relief After Distress brings together a stellar cast of Gulf stars led by Ghazi Hussein, Abdel Imam Abdullah, and Abeer Al-Jundi.

‘After You Are Away From Me’

A star-studded ensemble that includes Elham Al-Fadala, Shehab Gohar, Maram Al-Balushi, and Turki Al-Youssef address the sensitive issue of domestic violence in After You Are Away From Me. The series was directed by Jordan’s Saed Bushra Al-Hawari and written by Alia Al-Kazemi. 

‘Suhaila Bint Adeem…Mother of Khalajeen’

Inspired by popular legends, this Kuwaiti heritage series delves into contemporary social issues through the legendary figure of “Suhaila.” Directed by Fahd Shatti and produced by Bandar Al-Saeed, the series stars Zahra Al-Kharji, Hamad Al-Omani, Abdullah Al-Turkmani, and Mays Qamar.

‘Ghalia Al-Baqmiya’

Embodying the character of Princess Ghalia Al-Baqmiya, artist Elham Ali leads the Saudi series that narrates the story of the princess who led military resistance to defend her country.

‘Maridi and Daham’

Adding a touch of humor, the Kuwaiti series Maridi and Daham stars Abdel Nasser Darwish, Ahmed Al-Aounan, Bilal Abdullah, Sultan Al-Faraj, and others. Written by Abdullah Al-Kandari and Faisal Al-Balushi, and directed by Abdullah Al-Iraqi, the series follows two friends navigating comedic scenarios of fraud and theft.
