Nike SB Drops its First Middle Eastern Collaboration

The sportswear giant teams up with Dubai’s Frame for an ode to the UAE

What better way to celebrate the UAE’s National Day than a Nike drop? The sportswear giant did exactly that, teaming up with local skate and streetwear retailer Frame on a sneaker inspired by the gulf nation.

It’s a first for Nike SB. The sneaker marks its first collaboration in the Middle East, calling it ‘The Frame Nike SB Dunk, Heart of The City’, nicknamed ‘Habibi’.

Nike teamed up with Frame’s founder, Peter Anh, to make it happen. Anh, who opened the boutique’s doors in 2017, wanted to pay tribute to his adoptive home. The sneaker features a red, white, black and green colourway, a nod to the UAE’s flag.

“FRAME’s first collaboration with Nike SB is a story about the most universal reason for our existence – love,” the retailer wrote on Instagram. “At the heart of the city where people of different races, gender, age, and culture coexist, the common element we share is love.”

The sneaker also features checkered red and white lacing, reminiscent of the ghutra, the traditional headwear for Emirati men.

The sneaker’s nod to the region extended beyond its design. The ‘Habibi’ Dunks come in a special box featuring a golden geometric pattern similar to emblems of ancient Islamic art.
